FMCSA Opens 30-Day Public Comment Period on Paper Logs vs. ELDs
On February 9, 2026, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA)
published an official notice in the Federal Register announcing a 30-day public comment
period
regarding a request to allow professional drivers to use paper Records of Duty Status (RODS) instead of
Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
This proposal was submitted by the Federation of Professional Truckers, and FMCSA is
asking drivers, carriers, and the public to provide feedback.
